ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) is the substance that stores energy in the muscles. It is the fuel that provides muscle contraction. The more ATP present in the muscle, the stronger and longer the contraction.  ATP is broken down into ADP (= Adenosine Di Phosphate) and energy. In order for ADP to be converted back to ATP, it must react with creatine phosphate.
